The Mossburn Vintage Casks range are a collection of Single Malt Scotch Whiskies each issuing from a strictly limited and select batch of casks. Each numbered release will only ever yield a finite number of bottles. While this means that we can never replicate the particular character of this Single Malt, it also offers an opportunity to sample what we believe to be an exceptional example of the whisky made by one of Scotland’s most distinguished distilleries.
One of Diageo’s smallest distilleries with four pot stills. Originally a mill, but remodelled as a distillery in 1878, Glen Spey sits in the centre of the village of Rothes next door to the Glenrothes Distillery and across the road from Forsyths the famous still-makers. Glen Spey’s production has a characteristic lightness from the purifiers fitted to the spirit stills which return vapours back for further distillation. After ten years in smaller barrels, this whisky has a fragrant grassy nose with dried apple, linseed and some light vanilla. The palate starts sweeter with a little biscuity malt and vanilla cream, some floral spice and a delicious delicate light spice on quite a long dry finish.
This select release has been bottled at cask strength, without colouring or chill filtration, to showcase the purest expression of the Single Malt’s character.
